Some interpret that song to mean a life of selfishness. I don't. I interpret it differently.

I had an excellent friend. He was a business lawyer. One day I asked him why he selected such a high stress profession. He said "because my parents told me this is what I was going to do". He was an excellent lawyer - but from time to time, became so stressed out from his professional life.

That happens to so many people. They become conditioned through childhood to do it this way, do it that way, become this, believe that. I have known more than one adult who has lived to regret it.

It took me a while, but now as a 'seasoned adult' I have learned how to hold on to the things I was taught and I value, and to let go of things I was doing simply because I didn't want to disappoint family or I was conditioned to do/think. I do not regret the changes I made.
