I’m opposed to pomposity. The White House state dinners are rather small of room and tables, but cozy and warm. The intimacy is conducive to conviviality. That among diplomats is golden enough. However, were Guy Lombardo resurrected, and Kate Smith bellowing, one might fantasize a good time had by all 6,000 invitees.
