Ponying up to keep Andrej or Mirk or the Ivisic brothers, or to bring in Vaaks, has immmediate and visible impact to the team. I think it's harder to get that visible impact for football, aside from the quarterback or a few already-known stars (Altmyer, Jacas, Johnny Newton, guys like that), so it's probably a little tougher sell to bring in money to football, especially competing with basketball this year.
