I actually have no problem with the HS recruiting lately. We aren’t capable of much better.
Whether we want to admit it or not, there is still a pretty firm ceiling on this program even with the good run we’ve had. My hope would be that we’d have slightly deeper pockets to supplement this level of HS recruiting via the portal though. The scheme change excuse aside, not being able to retain or attract any defensive linemen in the portal is the only thing that has really given me pause. There is no Indiana style next step in front of us, it’s just going to have to be conference average recruiting with better than average development and just hope we can stay in the top half of the league with occasional years where we do even better than that. 2027 is supposed to be a smaller class for us but we're still way behind. Also, not really heavily involved with many high 3 star/borderline 4-star guys.
Sounds like we're going to lose out on one of our top OL targets (only rated in the ~800s) to Mizzou.
I'm still a 100% believer in Bert, and 2026 was a great class, but it's a bummer we couldn't keep the momentum going. Really need to avoid a down 2026 season. In-state class in 2028 is loaded.
