Worst my older dog has done with free range is get in the cow pond in the pasture behind the house and the pool uninvited at the house of the neighbors across from us - not on the same day, fortunately.

this is one of them that I do have. I understand that owning a dog in a rural area is different, but I just don't live in a world where putting a fucking shock collar on your dog is socially acceptable. Probably need to have something to keep the new pup out of the yard of the pit pull next door. Never worried about having a fence previously as either 1) there wasn't a house there, or 2) my older dog learned to stay on our side of the woods when there were other dogs on that property.
As we have a large, wooded area I'd prefer not to go with a physical line as I'm not sure it could easily be buried with all the tree roots. (A prior attempt by former neighbors with a physical line was not buried in large sections for this reason.)
Biggest concern is range and how it would work with a solid tree canopy.
