I do not understand why you wouldn't do a heat pump south of the Mason Dixon line on the east coast. Even growing up in Maryland in the 1980s, we had a heat pump and it was able to keep up in the winter. And that was a 1981 builder grade unit. Previous MessagePrevious Message
Turns out that despite it rarely getting below freezing, people here don't do heat pumps, which I think is a bit crazy. Coldest it gets here is 15-20 overnight and you need a gas furnace? pshaw.
Even crazier is that we were quoted a cheaper price for heat pump + gas backup (preexisting gas line) than heat pump + electric backup. Same heat pump model and everything. I don't get that at all, but it was $1,000 less to go with gas backup.
