I think Billy Wagner was fine pitcher for his role Archived Message

But he certainly wasn’t utterly dominant. His job became highly specialized where he’s only pitching 1 inning almost always with a lead. Lots of high leverage spots sure but something that IMO the majority of major league starters could do. I don’t find Billy Wagner’s career to be that much more remarkable than than many mid tier starters. Like if someone asked me if I wanted Billy Wagner or Jon Lester I’d easily take Jon Lester and I don’t think Jon Lester is hall of fame worthy. I wouldn’t vote for him and I wouldn’t vote for save merchants like Hoffman and Smith.
