He was great. Not so much since he hurt his arm, though*Archived Message

- It’s clear at this point that while we have talented players, we don’t have a developed star, and you need one in college basketball. KJ is going to go in the lottery, but no one could call him a great college player this year. In fact, he’s been close to bordering on not even a good college player for a bit here. Riley is the same. Might go end of round 1, but no one could call him a great college player this year. We lack that necessary piece.
- These one and done talents need to be surrounded by more developed talent to really get the most out of them. Stephon castle on UConn last year is a good example. He played with Tristen newton (grad), cam Spencer (grad), Karaban (so), and clingan (so). It allowed him to shine as the *fifth* leading scorer, but still go 5th overall or whatever he did. Obviously UConn is an extreme example, but one and dones don’t need to be your lead guy. It won’t hurt their draft stock.
- So while the “problem” this year is KJ and Riley not being stars, the real problem is Boswell, humrichous, and white just not being good enough from the portal to be those talented experienced guys around them. That was our demise.
- I’m a classic over-learner, so even though Boswell has disappointed me this year, I’d still probably like to roll with him next year as I do think some returning experienced continuity is a good thing. Assuming KJ and Riley are gone, I’d love to enter next year with Tomi, Morez, Stud Wing Portal Scorer, DGL, Boswell, with a talented freshmen/euro off the bench like Riley this year. That’s an experienced lineup, but still a sufficiently talented lineup, imo. Particularly in the front court.
