At a minimum Northwestern and Nebraska when he was a combined 1/16 and we went to OT.

Maybe Tre’s upside is more than Ty. I think it’s a wash, but can concede Tre might bring slightly more to the table.
But Goode would clearly be an upgrade over Ben. He’s shooting substantially better on similar volume, a better rebounder, and at worst just as bad of a defender.
Would it raise the ceiling? No, but it wouldn’t lower it and probably raises the floor slightly. You’re swapping out two role players with the same general imitations but one of whom is significantly better at the things he’s on the floor for. And then also adding the intangible culture/locker room stuff.
Again hindsight is 20/20 on this. Lots of people were excited about Ben and didn’t blink when Luke left. I’m sure the real answer is finding better options than all four of them (and not having your two PGs disappear the last month of the season).

Which seems to be the only way they would have been able to keep them around once TA was leaving and Luke had playing at his dream school as an option.
Ty could have been part of the rotation and very well could have taken Tre White’s spot if he stuck around and competed for it. But to me it’s still about missing on the replacements and less about the guys we didn’t bring back.

And not recruited over Ty for the sake of culture and leadership, and still more or less had the same team.
Sub in Ty for Tre and Luke for Ben and I think you substantially raise the floor while keeping the same ceiling.
20/20 hindsight though

Hawkins’ NIL is probably what KJ and Tomi are getting combined and then some.
I’m all for building a culture so won’t totally disregard the idea, but it wasn’t going to be more than a fringe tournament team if we went that route. So people would have had to accept that tradeoff.

Back with Dre, Add KJ, Tomi, and Morez and this is a much better team. Not finding a spot for Ty never made sense to me. C'est la vie. Make the tourney and try again next year
