"4 to 8 range"

Its a great added benefit that he’s established as surefire one and done instead of a ‘maybe’
Posted by OB25
Definitely*
Posted by John Coctostan
And he is such a good recruiting pitch... maybe the single best one we have *ever* had*
Posted by uofi1998
yea, writing is on the wall, take a victory lap over 4 1st round picks in 3 years
Posted by ijustkrushalot
Come take his place... you're ranked #20... he was #261... imagine what you can do...
Posted by uofi1998

Did nepotism get us a really good assistant coach? Many such cases*
Posted by gvibes
There seems to have been a run on red string and push pins in the general Illinois vicinity
Posted by ATL
I never minded the Tyler hire anyways, I think it's materially different than Cubit/Lovie
Posted by ijustkrushalot
Let's start with the fact Tyler actually played CBB.
Posted by uofi1998
He also started at the bottom--he wasn't on staff initially
Posted by Blazer
yup, exactly. Having your kid on staff/on the team is pretty common across college sports
Posted by ijustkrushalot
For sure I've flipped from annoyed Tyler is here because he wouldn't be unless his dad was the coach
Posted by meanjeans
Maybe. I'm convinced the plan for Brad is to pass the program on to Tyler when he's ready to retire
Posted by illini21
Brad had to work a long time paying dues before he got this job. I feel like Brad wouldn’t
Posted by voiceofreason
I don't think Brad has the stature to do that
Posted by jdl
I despise the idea unless he takes a HC gig for a few years elsewhere
Posted by bjl63
I think he’ll go for a MM HC job. Doesn’t have to worry about money ever again.
Posted by Carl Spackler Could also see him go to an NBA assistant job. Doubt he stays around as an assistant until Brad retires.
Kinda seems that way, but I hate it a lot less than I did before...
Posted by uofi1998
Stephen Pearl should be cautionary tale enough*
Posted by Gene Parmesan
If Josh is still here I can't see him just rolling with that plan.*
Posted by Warrin'_Illini
If Brad is here another 10 years and we're still rolling and Tyler has had an AHC role
Posted by ijustkrushalot
It seems like there has been a concerted effort the last month to put Tyler out front and center
Posted by Blazer
Yep, agreed.*
Posted by voiceofreason
Yeah wasn’t a coincidence that the Keaton ‘2 offers’ story told every game…
Posted by OB25
yep about to say the same. been a very clear push the last month to publicize him*
Posted by John Coctostan
he'd be the youngest coach in D-I if hired
Posted by ijustkrushalot
UMKC job is open.
Posted by Poldark "But Jesus Christ guys, not every loss is referendum on Brad Underwood"

Oh, I don't want that*

Overall you'll probably save money. The cheapest SeatGeek Indiana ticket is $183.

Tidbits from Brad's Wednesday press conference (longish, as usual).
Posted by JFG On Washington: Very talented, one of the best bigs in the country, good size, solid defensively. Steinbach is a potential draft choice. Need same mentality as Purdue...keeping their bigs off the glass. Diallo has improved a lot from last year. They're coming off a win, we'll need to play well On Tyler and the offense: we have good players, Tyler's done a good job of putting guys in places to have success and not do too much outside of their comfort zone, simplifying the game. Coaching with him means a lot to Brad...Brad says he was "pretty much an absentee father" when his kids were young, never coached his kids when they were young. To have this opportunity to be with Tyler now is awesome, and it means a lot to Brad. Tyler works really hard and is professional. Tyler is the math behind everything, smarter than Brad, studies and talks NBA with everybody. Brad stays out of the way and listens, doesn't always agree and will question, allows Tyler to convince them. On David's ankle and Jakstys: David is fine with a couple days of rest, Jason is out with a blood clot in shoulder area that is being treated. Updates to come. On shot selection ID: lots of emphasis on identifying good shots, this has helped clearly communicate with players what the coaches are looking for. Been very positive for the players. On Purdue buzz: sure, awesome win, but focus on Washington. That's why we play a crazy non-con so players learn to quickly move on to the next challenge. On Ty: Participated in practice yesterday for first time since groin injury. Wait and see pattern still. On offensive evolution over 3-4 years: Always thought we needed offense to win, but it's not about action you run, it's about maximizing your best and most efficient players and putting them in their best spots. Redefining shot selection has been huge. Nice having lots of bigs that can shoot 3's. On Tyler identifying Keaton: Brad trusted Tyler to know what to look for, Keaton was a great passer, shooter, has positional size. Didn't take a lot of convincing once Brad watched him on film and then got to know him and his story. On "did you expect Keaton to be this good": No, of course not. Hard to know until you can grind on people in practice to really know who somebody is. He was good this summer, but also good once practice started. On "if you had to scout yourself, what would you do.": He asked himself if he was Painter, what would he do differently. Nothing. We just hit the shots and took our opportunities. Matt didn't coach anything wrong. We made shots and it worked. We won the rebounding battle. That's why we won. On redefining pace: it's helped. Brad would like us to play a bit faster, but not reckless. Value possessions. 4 passes to space, 6 to action. Efficient shots that are "our shots" On defensive matchups/Washington: they are elite on the offensive boards. They can hurt you with physicality. Diallo is good midrange. We need to rebound. On Royal Palm invitational next year (I guess there was an article that we're considering going?): Brad's only excited about Washington and our current team, other people handle the other stuff.
The "what would you do differently" answer was a little disconcerting
Posted by Blazer
Counterpoint: WTF is he gonna say? "Yeah, I'm not sure what Matt was thinking."
Posted by tvillini
About to make this same point*
Posted by GMAW

CounterCounter point. It was a dumbass question.
Posted by JFG Hell yes...defend us just like Matt did. Lol.

On Ty
Posted by illini
Yeah, I don't see the fit on this team... honestly, it's the same problem as 2024...
Posted by uofi1998
His back to basket post up game would be useful to hunt matchups, but I don’t know who you are
Posted by voiceofreason
Your last point is the key. Everybody on this team can shoot.
Posted by JFG
he could sub in for Dre if the other 4 on the floor can shoot

undy on the score this morning. i forgot tommy got his tonsils out. that's kind of a bigger deal
Posted by Ari Gold

My son got his out a year ago and couldn’t do anything athletic for two full weeks*
Posted by GMAW
Halfway through Big Ten play...who do you think is going to take the regular season title?
Posted by JFG MSU has a shot, but I kinda compare them to us. They still have @Michigan, @Wisconsin, @Purdue, with us, Michigan, and UCLA at home. Maybe they're the darkhorse?
Nebraska has by far the easiest schedule*
Posted by assassin
If they beat us on Sunday, Nebraska is definitely the team to beat*
Posted by GMAW
Since they aren't going to... time for their slide*
Posted by uofi1998
It kinda feels like we need to beat them, and they need a double trip up on the West Coast.
Posted by JFG
I think we beat them. This one is circled for sure. Avoid the UW trap*
Posted by uofi1998
Michigan. They have physical talent above the rest of the league.
Posted by uofi1998
For as impressive as they have looked, their run through December was against the dregs
Posted by Blazer
I mean... I could've just said Illinois to placate the forum...
Posted by uofi1998
I don't think it's Illinois necessarily
Posted by Blazer
I think Lendeborg is overhyped. And their guards are trash.
Posted by Ron McDon
I mean… they beat otherwise-undefeated Gonzaga by 40. They have wagon potential.
Posted by uofi1998
Gonzaga is an *actual* paper tiger this year
Posted by GMAW
They are very good, one of the best teams in the land. But I don’t know what got into them…
Posted by OB25
Seem like a lot of it was hot 3 point shooting
Posted by jdl
I mean... by that rationale... Illinois...
Posted by uofi1998
The example would be Illinois last year
Posted by Blazer
For the record I’m not saying we’re better than Michigan in this argument.
Posted by OB25
Nah, we've been shooting them well for a month and a half now
Posted by jdl
I must have missed the point*
Posted by uofi1998
I was responding to OB25's post *
Posted by jdl
It's obviously impressive
Posted by Blazer
Ok, fine. We are all doomed! Better?*
Posted by Ron McDon
LOL... of course not... unless we are.
Posted by uofi1998
Looks like #2 now… my bad*
Posted by uofi1998
Meh - Nebraska was missing their most important player and were gassed
Posted by ATL
It gives me no joy to say this about them.
Posted by uofi1998
If we go 16-4 and don't get a share I'll tip my cap to the winner. That's also likely a 2 seed
Posted by illini
I'm just saying I don't think Michigan is heads and houlders above some of the other top
Posted by ATL
I think Nebraska would have been in dominant position had they held on last night
Posted by RSMBob
my guess is 17-3 gets you a tie for the title, 18-2 will win it outright*
Posted by bucktownillini
Steinbach has been a beast on the boards in my limited viewing of them.*
