There is a nice post circulating now on the internet and attributed to Dave Lee. “I don’t give a sh** how much Martin Lewis is worth or if Jack Monroe’s accounts don’t add up or how much Mick Lynch earns. They’re not the enemy. They’re stood up, using their real names, taking flak daily and still shouting about injustice. Attack the real enemy.” Good advice. Why is it that so many old communists assume that those with whom they disagree politically have moral failings? The truth is that those who were Euros, or members of Straight Left or the NCP, unless they were actual government plants, took the positions they took out of conviction. You may disagree with those positions, but they are not evidence of corruption. Back in the days of the CPGB we all got something or other wrong. And on revisionism, I recall an exchange some years back that I had with someone who had used the term. ME: “That’s not how Lenin defined revisionism.” THEM: “A lot has changed since Lenin wrote.” ME: So you have had to revise your definition of revisionism.” THEM: “Yes.” One sure sign of what we used to call ultra leftism is when you are more concerned with asserting that only you are the pure Marxist Leninist and all the others are revisionists than with joining forces with anyone who will fight the class enemy. The most successful period for communist parties was that of the united front against fascism. Sectarianism does not win battles.
