I read an article about Francesca Gino in National Review titled, "Irony Alert! Tenured Harvard Prof Who Studied Honesty Fired for Falsifying Data" Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the Freakonomics podcast that has a written transcript on the subject of why so much fraud in academia. I found it to be interesting, but not terribly surprising.

When there is the potential for receiving more than $1 million in compensation each year, that can be a very powerful motivator to do whatever is necessary to acquire that type of paycheck.
