or vote for Democrats, being that most of their rights and protections as citizens come from that side of the aisle. Still... there are as many diverse opinions and 'sides' to issues as there are people. There is still a wide range on the spectrum for both Democrats and Republicans to fall on when it comes to many issues being considered 'left' or 'right' oriented.
I would argue that Democrat administrations are more fiscally "conservative" and responsible than Republicans these days, even though many would think the opposite to be true. Most people do not even look at the stats and numbers when it comes to budgets, deficits and debt as related to the records of Republican vs Democrat administrations. Many just 'believe' Republicans are the more fiscally responsible or "conservative" because that's what they've been led to believe. If you look at the stats, though, the opposite would obviously be true.
It should be obvious that today's Republicans are diverting attention to 'social conservatism' issues rather than fiscal conservatism, drawing attention away from their irresponsible fiscal policies, knowing that most people don't look at or realize what the stats reveal. They know that many people will be more inclined to focus on emotional issues, like abortion and gays and such, while just believing the lies and misinformation that are put out there by so-called 'traditional' "conservatives."
