You are putting your faith in a book that was written by men, which is full of contradictions, much less absolute truths.

The truth is that this country was founded on secular laws that have been reached and established by consensus, just like any other civilization in history. It matters not whose god or scriptures people put their faith in... laws are established by consensus of human beings... of, for, and by the people.

There is only one 'universal law' really, and that is the golden rule... 'do unto others...' Because you don't want people to lie, steal or harm you or your family, friends and neighbors... you don't get to lie, steal or harm other people and their family, friends and neighbors. See how simple that is? And because you value your freedom to live how you choose to live, and believe what you choose to believe without harming others, you have to respect the same right of others to believe and live the way they want or choose without harming others.

It's really not rocket science, and it does not require some mystical or "absolute" truth, god or standard that no one can challenge. It only requires common sense that CAN and SHOULD be challenged as times and circumstances change. It's called evolution.

Many laws CAN and do change, and with good reason. Not all laws are inclusive, good or appropriate for the times or circumstances we find ourselves in, and people CAN have legitimate disagreements on which laws are good, bad or need to be changed. There is NO absolute standard to go by, except maybe the universal 'golden rule' standard which was written and acknowledged even before your "holy book" was written. If we all had to accept your "absolute standard" or chosen beliefs or interpretations in your "holy book", we would have to kill children for disrespecting or disobeying their parents, kill people for picking up sticks on the sabbath day, kill women (AND their unborn babies) who get pregnant without being married, kill homosexuals, kill adulterers, and kill anyone "God" tells us to in order to conquer a neighboring country or community that "God" wants to give to us, according to those who wrote this "holy book."

So the fact remains, laws are made by and for people in order to live more peaceably and judiciously within a 'civilized' society and world... despite any one person's or group's beliefs or claims to the contrary.
