"A "YES" vote supports amending the state constitution to reduce the state individual income tax, based on revenue growth, until the tax is eliminated; reduce personal property and other local taxes when local revenues increase, while prohibiting reductions in funding for public schools; prohibit future state individual income taxes once eliminated; and limit expansions of sales and use taxes, unless they are used to reduce income tax."

"Eliminate income tax"? Cool, right? No.

1. It's not an instant elimination of income tax; it's a gradual phase out but the increase in sales tax would be immediate.
2. This gives the state the right to increase the sales tax to whatever they want it to be without the people having a say on it.
3. This also opens up a whole new category of goods and services to be taxed that weren't taxed before, like going to the doctor.
4. No income tax works for some states like Tennessee and Florida because they have the tourism to make up for it. Missouri does not.
5. Kansas tried this in 2012, and it was a disaster they had to unwind in 5 years. Missouri is much closer to Kansas than Florida demographically.

Unless you're the top 1%, you'll end up spending more in sales tax increases than you did in income tax.
