I hear what you're saying. I don't love the pay to play system - we used to play park districtArchived Message

until high school when travel was actually "elite". Now, park district sports die early (1st grade for soccer around here) and you have to pay for travel. Everyone makes the B, C, D, etc. team so it's not really that elite but it is more expensive.
But I've accepted it and I love watching my kids every weekend. Watched my oldest for 10+ years play travel soccer. I'm going to miss that dearly as he was really passionate. My middle plays and is good, but not as passionate...Diglet3 just started travel this year and has improved a ton. We'll see how passionate he becomes.

I'm glad my girls liked sports.
Oldest did 1 year of travel basketball in the summer transitioning from one junior high to a new high school. She played out of position, so I'm not sure it helped.
Youngest is going into her second year. I'm not a fan of the costs, travel, lost weekends, and general travel BS. That said, I "think" it helps her some. She's somewhat timid and the extra play in travel gets her to play more open than she typically does in school ball. She loves basketball and I'm hoping this helps as she progresses in school.

for their daughters' competitive dance and cheer circuit. Diglet#1s teams hit up some awesome tourneys over the years - Vegas, St Lou, Indy, Memphis. Loved spending the time together with him and other families.
But these dance/cheer things. Woof. Higher cost, higher stress - they've been practicing putting false eyelashes on the girls (Jr. High), multiple outfits at $200 pop for 1 weekend, Special luggage to carry said outfits, Cattiness galore.
Give me soccer all day, every day.

Apparently it's "stay to play", so the team has to have at least 8 rooms booked from the official tournament hotel block. There's more than 8 families and the tournament hotel is both not cheap AND far away from the tournament site.
RIP the team manager parent's text inbox, she's already hearing from people that dont want to use the official hotel. Also, only 3 kids from the B team were invited to attend, despite more than 3 occasionally subbing with A team.
