1. As Avery Johnson pointed out on Saturday, Illinois runs a lot of action where they bring a big to the top of the key to set a screen for Shannon, but Shannon declines the ball screen and goes the other way. How will Iowa State combat that? This is great action to clear the paint AND avoid a hard hedge. I wonder whether Iowa State might double Shannon anyhow. I assume Illinois will be ready with some good slip screen action.
2. The best way to prevent booty ball isn't to trap, but simply to deny Domask the ball entirely. On occasion we've had Domask bring the ball up the court and dribble all the way into booty ball. But he's struggled to do this against quick guards. My guess is that they put someone like Lipsey on Domask and dare him to dribble. I also think they'll try to blow up every dribble handoff.
3. Iowa State is not a good defensive rebounding team. And we're ELITE at offensive rebounding. If we can avoid turnovers, I don't think they can stop us. But that's an enormous if. Houston has an elite combination of avoiding turnovers and pounding the offensive glass, and Iowa State beat them twice.
4. Be prepared for a Michigan State style game where Iowa State's guards take like 50 floaters/runners.
