I don't know as much about the Fender and Yamaha lines, but there are definitely some good ones there as well. The higher up in quality you go, the more important it is to go play it and see how it feels to you. At the beginner level it doesn't matter because you're going to suck anyway, but once you know what you like to play, getting a good feel is just as important as having a quality guitar.
