if we want to do that- and that's a completely defensible position to take- we're taking the wrong position.
if you want to weaken china, you don't go full isolationist and start a fight with your own allies. you build soft power, especially in and around their spheres of influence.
hitting at them with tariffs will hurt their economy, for sure. but it will also hurt ours (as we saw in 2018-2019 when we spent billions bailing out our farmers when china tariffed our soybeans). china can find an outlet for their exports a lot easier than we can.
