King Edward VIII did not have time to introduce a Family Order udring his short reign. Whether he started to commissioned badges before the abdication is not known. However his successor, his brother George VI most certainly did, and like his regnal name, these were bosed upon his Father's. Royal Service, Volume II notes: "King George VI's Family Order was suspended from a pink watered ribbon the same width as that of his father but only made in the two sizes. Two Large and five smaller badges were supplied by Garrard in May 1937 an the first presentations were made by the King at a family lunch at Buckinham Palace two days before the coronation." Page 36. A list of those appointed (seven in 1937 and one in 1951) is printed on page 43. Page 34 reproduces photographs of the front and back of the badge that was presented to HRH The Duchess of Gloucester. While the badge of the George V Family Order were surrounded by round "brilliant cut" diamonds, George VI's badges were surrounded by 16 "brilliant cut" diamonds in pairs, seperated by 8 rectangular "baguette cut" diamonds.
