Larentia awoke to the sound of her daughter's harsh voice. She looked up, her gaze flitting over the half-blinded female, and then settling on the kalak next to Beartooth. She didn't even have to guess who had impregnated the femme.
Found a new plaything, Beartooth? she thought, stretching her leg. Larentia's eyes drank in the sights around her: the two new wolves; her daughters; Beartooth and the new kalak. Larentia had never seen the latter around before. Then again, she was in an icy cage, and probably would never get out of it.
She didn't miss the way Skadi looked at Nadia. And the glance the kalak sent her. She also didn't like the way the new male was looking at her daughter. Like she was a prize to be won.
Larentia watched in stony silence. She assumed Beartooth had called a pack meeting while she was asleep. Why else would all these wolves be here?
She slowly stood, moving to the edge of the cage. Larentia met her daughter Nadia's eyes. Nadia was sending her a look, one that told of bad and good things. Larentia sent a reassuring glance to Nadia. Then she glared back at the pair of newcomers. Why, if either of them ever did anything to hurt Skadi, Boiko, or Nadia, she'd break out of this prison herself and bite out their throats, important or no.
