Rayne carefully entered the clearing, her belly bulging with pups. She hadn't seen Beartooth since the day she'd been knocked up by him. She was afraid. Her due date was soon. And what if it was like her other litter, her two sons and one daughter? Stillborn. Rayne still grieved for them every day.

She slunk to the side, avoiding every gaze that may have been cast her way. Rayne's anxiety spurred and she felt her breaths begin to quicken, her steps stalling. She stopped cold, and her eyes flew up to the scarred, brutal-looking new woman. That was a major mistake, as the sight of her made Rayne balk and begin to shiver. Yeah . . . she needed to work on her courage.
Rayne swallowed hard. She was meeting Tarben. And they were scary. And she was seriously screwed up, as she'd had an episode. She'd not come out of her den the past two days, and only came out today because Beartooth called for her. Rayne trembled. She tried to compose herself, feeling ill.
