The watch that baconface described is basically a dumb phone
Edited by ISeeDeadHawkeyes on August 25, 2025, 15:26:23
My kid has one. I can see his location at all times, control the apps he can use, and also control his contacts. He can text approved friends and that is about it Previous Message Which is the basis of the discussion. Dumb phones are an entirely different situation. That being said, I think kids could use a lot more untethered freedom. Previous Message To ride her bike in our neighborhood, walk to the playground, her friends house etc.. having the ability to reach us/reach her if needed gives us the the confidence to allow that. As opposed to when I was a kid absolutely risking my life on a semi regular basis with my parents having no idea where/what I was up to. Previous Message Now I don't have the experiences you do of having a child so I admit that I could be wildly off, but when would an 11 year old need a smart phone to get a hold of a parent? Wouldn't they either be able to call with a normal phone, or be around an adult with a phone?
