Should parents cave? Probably not. But given how prevalent and ubiquitous phones have become in society, my position as a parent is I'd rather teach them how to manage a phone and social media and all that comes with that than just say no.
In school, Lil Taz has to put her phone on her locker or else it will get confiscated until parent picks it up. She's a major rule follower, so I'm not worried about her.
My two oldest had small amounts of phone time written into their IEPs for emotional health. It was sometimes still a problem.
Our current senior texts us back sometimes when w text her, but usually she says she's between classes and has to go. So I don't think she's on her phone on class.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the matter, but this subject is hardly controversial, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence and research. You don't get to come at me like you're some fucking moral authority on parenting and child development.

Restricting cell phone use has become one of the most significant policy shifts in schools in recent years. In just two academic years, what started as an isolated measure in Florida has grown into a national debate involving nearly three dozen states, as well as educators, parents, and researchers. While it's still too early to determine its full impact, the restrictions have already reshaped the daily routines of millions of students.
Seventeen states and the District of Columbia began this academic year with new limits on student cellphone use, marking one of the fastest-moving trends in American education policy. With the latest additions, a total of 35 states now have laws or rules restricting phones and other electronic devices during the school day.
