...and said that all of his friends kinda felt the same way. Which proves to me that no matter where you grow up, there's a good liklihood you want to leave once you've graduated high school. Previous Message Young adult - the beaches and nightlife vibe of the South Bay is pretty awesome (Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo) with relatively easy access to Santa Monica, Hollywood, etc Middle - Orange County half way between LA and SD is a great location for jobs, family, activities, beaches, not to mention Disneyland and more. Someone mentioned San Clemente (far south OC), that is a great choice...beach town without the craziness of others, a bit more peaceful, nice downtown Older - Central Coast from Santa Barabara up to San Luis Obispo, maybe even Morro Bay/Cambria/San Simeon. I fell in love with the central coast in my late 20s making business trips up to the area, honeymooned there, made yearly trips with my wife's family camping for 20 years, and now my daughter goes to college in SLO. Pismo Beach area could be a great retirement area...everything you need except access to major city entertainment/sports. Overall - Santa Barbara. Can get to LA if needed, but a gorgeous downtown, stunning scenery, good weather, and a relaxed lifestyle.
