We went STL -> NYC (manhattan) -> LA -> NYC (Brooklyn) -> STL in a 7 year span and I was absolutely addicted to the “what’s next”. New places, neighborhoods to explore, weekend trips etc. We’re settled into a comfortable life in STL with kids, family nearby, etc and would be crazy to move but it doesn’t stop the urge to pick up and leave town. Previous Message I moved to Denver on a complete whim just because change seemed exciting. We have a nice situation here and while I can quibble about things, I’ve got no substantial complaints. But I’ve got the bug again. San Francisco, seattle, San Diego. Something denser, more cultural, more exciting. Or in San Diego’s case, just more perfect weather. But it’s completely impractical to move all the time, especially with my finance being a teacher. You fuck your pension upside by moving around, and if you have a kid forget about it. So I’ve been thinking a lot about what I value most to see if I can figure out where would be best. But the reality is it’s just a change bug, and if I moved somewhere else, I’d just inevitably want to move again at some point down the road for some other made up reason. Previous Message I think I crave change more than anything which gets unrealistic/impractical as you settle down and have kids Previous Message I’m turning 37 this year and getting married. I still love and am geared towards walkability and urban life, but is that going down? Will it continue to go down the next few years (and beyond)? Does weather matter to me more now? Does space? Does coast? I’m definitely a bit up in the air about what I value most and what situation I’d be happiest in, both now and moving forward. Previous Message How different my wants and needs are now opposed to 20 years ADP when I first moved here. Previous Message Previous Message Previous Message 2 votes for SF (1 of them was me, so really only 1 other) for the most urban, walkable choice on that list surprises me given the makeup of this board. For the Chicago residents, is dense, walkable urbanism not a major reason why you live in Chicago? Is it more just a secondary nicety? Or is San Diego just too nice from a lifestyle perspective that you’d trade walkability for it. It’s an interesting topic to me as I think about what aspects of a place are most important to me. Previous Message You have to live in California. Your quality of life regarding costs are equal. Where do you pick If you want a suburb of a city, please pick other and share if you’d like
