Went there about 20 years ago and loved it. Always thought I could semi-retire and work a Med Quick-Care on the island. Then I looked at the real estate market there. Holy shit! And this was awhile ago, so assume it's done nothing but go way up. I'm sure it's change too.

We've made it work and made a good life of it, but it's a pain in the ass in a lot of ways.
I think it has pretty horrible / half deserved / terrible PR nationally as well.

2 votes for SF (1 of them was me, so really only 1 other) for the most urban, walkable choice on that list surprises me given the makeup of this board.
For the Chicago residents, is dense, walkable urbanism not a major reason why you live in Chicago? Is it more just a secondary nicety? Or is San Diego just too nice from a lifestyle perspective that you’d trade walkability for it. It’s an interesting topic to me as I think about what aspects of a place are most important to me.
