My son got a stoma when he was 14. He has no bowel control or sensation. Paralysis from his belly button down. His stoma is used for bowel maintenance. Antegrade Colonic Enema or ACE. His appendix is the main structure of the stoma. His leaks on occassion and sometimes angrily. We call it his belly-butthole. It's meant to be an entry point. He has a device called a CHAIT its a semi-permanent catheter for a saline enema to stimulate evacuation from the top of the colon. He also has a bladder augment part of his small intestine is most of his bladder. It needs flushing daily because the tissue still behaves like an intestine. He was born with one kidney that needs protecting. He also has a Shunt in his head for the hydrocephalus. His tubes are all over the place.
