It means if she was sipping on alcohol and not something like a coke, that she's a) willing to break the law and b) rather unlikely in 2-3 hours of being in bars to have only been sipping alcohol. If it can be proven she lied about this in her statement to police, how would we know what else she may or may not have lied about? If she was the designated driver, maybe sipping really is true though.
The above of course doesn't mean she isn't telling the truth about everything else (odds are probably pretty high in her favor that at minimum she believes most of what she's said) but not sure this does her any favors...
I think all TSJ really needs though is reasonable doubt, which seems likely to already exist unless he has admitted to doing it or there is a witness or some other real evidence here.
