Obviously it's been discussed a lot on this board how society needs to make sure young women are protected from sexual assault. As the dad of three daughters, this whole case has just been gross to me and I really hope it didn't happen, but if one of my kids called me and described something like what was in that affidavit, I'd want that dude's head on a plate. Then obviously you get into the other side of was this a hatchet job on a kid that has money. The internal moral debate is something everybody has to struggle with on how they view this.
But, now that we're at the day where TSJ could potentially be re-instated, I find myself further split on this.
If he does get the TRO and is back with the team, there are obviously tons of positives. TSJ's letter really detailed how people are getting hurt from this, including him and his family and the people he provides for, so getting back "to it" would help there. Obviously it helps the team, both in his talent and his 30+ minutes a game. And obviously his teammates will love to have him back as he is their guy.
But there's the other side. I realize the school would be somewhat insulated due to the decision being in the hands of a court, but I still think it's a black eye. It's going to drag the school through the mud. It makes our school's discipline process look jacked up. It will piss off people who work at and attend the school. It will piss off a subsection of fans...one of my good friends has already said that he's not going to watch games if TSJ is playing while charged with rape. It adds a narrative that is kinda icky and gross to our national coverage. It adds a distraction to our team. It adds to pressure on the road and hostile environments.
The whole thing just sucks, and I'm having trouble coming to terms with it.
