because the CEO who took over a few years ago hates WFH. The decade prior to Covid the company spent flattening small offices in BU's they acquired and making people WFH to cut overhead costs. That to me makes sense for a tech firm. At the time of the CEO swap, the company had 44000 people with 10000+ in remote roles. Theyve systematically dismantled that by giving people the "option" to relocate or be fired. It was announced in December that the office my BU was tied to was being closed and the 200-300 people still there were told they had to move yo another state to keep their roles. They got about 5% of that campus to relocate.
The company has also laid off thousands of people while investing in a new mega campus in NJ (close to the house of the current CEO) and tax credits are based on butts in seats.
The whole thing is a case study in mismanagement. They are down to just over 30000 people left and most BU's are floundering. Customer service is in the shitter and new development is non-existent. So if my prior posts in this thread sound jaded, it's because they are. It's been hard to watch the chaos this has caused in lives of many long term colleagues.

Do you at least see the POV of companies desperate to get back to the before times?

Just had an announcement that we are going from full time telework for all non-supervisors to 3 days/week in office starting in a couple on months. I bet we lose 10-20% of the workforce in the next 6 months. Certainly tips the balance for me way towards leaving, if I can find a gig.
But at least we can all improve collaboration by calling into meetings from our desks in the office instead of from our desks at home.
