I think many people think they are silly virtue signaling, in one ear and out the other. For example, the last time I went to a theater in DC, it unsurprisingly had one in the program. Of course, it was just for the last native tribe that had the land before the white people arrived, and not the one that tribe had stolen or taken it from, nor did the acknowledgment ask the patrons to do anything meaningful.
If such things moved out of niche places into more visible scenarios, such as announcing a land acknowledgment before each NFL game, we might agree that there'd likely be more pushback.
The example you mentioned about "core" reminded me of the infamous school renaming in San Francisco that caused the school board to be kicked out. Don't distract and annoy people with questionable renames when the schools are closed and you aren't doing your actual core job.
