Happy endings were overrated, Marigold knew. They didn’t happen. And now her daughter had run away, surely looking for a father who didn’t want her, who would sooner betray her than love and treasure her.
Marigold knew now who she had slept with: the killer of a king. She was ashamed, but she didn’t regret her children. Shy Nanala, headstrong Tytos, sarcastic Tyrion, adventurous Prim. And that adventurous part was now proving to be a hassle; Primrose had run.
Mari followed her daughter’s trail to the Firefly Forest, which tonight possessed a very strange aura. This made Marigold nervous, for strange things happened in Starfall. She didn’t want her daughter falling to harm. She ran in, ignoring her fear for herself. She had to find Prim.
Mari’s eyes flicked about, searching the trees, the grass and sky. She hadn’t found Prim. Then, she felt sleepy. Mere seconds later, she was thinking, I was right; this was a mistake, and she was falling.
