The shy man thought the earth stank of corruption. Somewhere, somehow, there was going to be a war, like the one he had lost his mother in.
Sloane’s eyes darted about, the vampire boy searching for any danger that may be lurking. His sister had vanished, and good riddance. He missed her, but she had chosen a lack of protection. She had always been the bold one; she wasn’t scared by the old queen.
He was, and Estelle wasn’t helping matters, with her bloodthirst and her malice. She was always wandering Starfall. Probably killing wolves; many were disappearing.
Including his sister. The thought made bile rise up in Sloane’s throat, so he turned quickly and ran. He exited Nightingale pack grounds and bolted to wherever his legs would take him.
He flew on nimble paws into Firefly Forest, panting and heaving. His orbs glanced around, and he felt uneasy. Fireflies covered the clearing, bright and exotic. It was their presence in the dead of winter that made him uneasy.
He took one step. Falling over, he hit the ground hard, an “oof” leaving his lips before he was gone.
