Remus was confused until he heard Artemis say, “My children . . . I love you too . . .” Now he understood. She must now be a spirit Elemental.
“I saw them. They were here. I got to say goodbye. They did not resent me, they wish for me to carry on with my life.” Broadly, Remus smiled at this news.
“Well, I think that’s wonderful news. You must now be a spirit Elemental,” he mused. Meeting Artemis’ pretty teal gaze, he felt only happiness. “I’m relieved for you that you can move on. I imagine it’s a great weight lifted, knowing that they do not hate you but love you.” He sighed happily. Remus’ one eye gazed down upon Artemis, seeing the beautiful white lady with tears of joy streaming down her fur. He smiled at her. “I understand the relief, I guess. Or I wish I could. For a time, my sister, one of her daughters, and myself were lost in a series of portals leading in and out of Starfall. When we finally made it back to Hawthorne, two of my nephews had died, and her other daughter and son were nowhere to be found. Oracle and Kelsea eventually turned up. But since we left she’s been cut off from them, and I think being separated from Oracle, Kelsea, and two sons from the bastard she was with is tearing at her more than she lets on. And then . . . her son, Calvin, disappeared. It’s horrible; Nellie has too many ghosts and fears.” He lowered his head. “I don’t wish to rain sadness upon your amazing news, I’m sorry. That was improper of me.”
