Remus felt a twinge of pain for Artemis as she spoke of being alone in the world. His sister moved wordlessly off to the side to sit alone; Remus shook his head. “Artemis, no. I promise you that I’ll be with you. I’ll be your friend.” He smiled at her softly. “Artemis, I really do like you. I think that you’re an amazing soul. You have not deserved the hardship that has befallen you.” He believed this with all his strength. “I am honored to know you. Artemis, I don’t know that anyone I’ve known would have done for a pair of strangers what you just did for Daneliya and myself. Any man would be delighted to call you his, whether his mate or his friend.” His heart was hammering slightly; speeches weren’t his thing. Remus was more suited to the background. He was slightly shocked that he was even speaking this much. “And after all, it can only get better, right, once you’ve hit the bottom?” This was as much to comfort Artemis as it was to assuage Remus’ fears about his poor sister. He was confident she would eventually recover and come back. He knew she’d rebounded from much worse before . . . although, it was worse knowing that Beartooth had murdered his nephew. That sonuvabitch. He had been the cause of so many of his family’s troubles and Remus wished to see him dead. His heart told him that nobody could be past redemption, but his mind told him that Beartooth was already past redemption.
