As long as there’s no Ivisic/Boswell nut punch coming (shut up narrator), I’m glad we got this shit out of the way quickly and can move on. I’ve been dreading the ‘Morez to the portal’ post for months but now that it has happened I’m over it quicker than expected.
Not sure if we’ll get him but there are good vibes with Josh Dix. And it seems like Sarr is a backup plan for Duke if they can’t get the top 5 player (Ament) that they’re favored for. Getting those guys and having a starting lineup of Boswell/Dix/Sarr/Ivisic and a 4 man that we’ll have tons of money to spend on is pretty damn exciting and I’ll be all the way back in.
And on the broader point of attrition, this really just comes down to the assistant coach turnover more than anything. Last offseason it was Chester (Amani, Sencire), this offseason it’s Anderson (Morez/White). Underwood has deferred the recruiting and relationship building a bit too much to his assistants in the past but is supposedly something he’s changed on recently, and we just need to regain some stability with the staff. Yes we’ve had incredible success in finding replacements but there’s just never going to be any continuity if you delegate the relationship-building to the assistants and then have a bunch of turnover with those assistants.
But all in all, we’re still in a good spot as a program and it’s going to be fine. There are some lessons that are hopefully being learned from these past 12 months (both schematically and philosophically) that can help us keep this thing moving forward.
