I've seen nothing from his side suggesting he wants to shoot a lot of threes, or wants the offense to run through him. Nothing definitive on how much money he wanted. I expect it's largely true that he was told not to shoot jumpers. We hit him on a few pick and rolls, otherwise he earned just about every shot he took by getting offensive rebounds. That was probably the best thing to do for the team, maybe not the best approach if you didn't want him to transfer to Michigan after one year. Given the number of bad shots we took as a team, giving him a chance or two each game would not have been fatal. His father noted, accurately I think, that after the one jumper he took all season he was benched for 9 or 10 minutes. I expect there was no connection between those two things, but not surprised that his family would see it that way if they were already questioning the way he was used. Maybe this is all on Morez, his family and his people. But maybe our staff could do a better job of communicating, realizing there are issues with a particular player, and figuring out a way to deal with it that doesn't result in them leaving. |
